Djokovic lauds Murray for 'bringing a fresh look' to his game
Andy Murray will be absent in Brisbane next week but Novak Djokovic is already enjoying working with his former rival turned coach.
Novak Djokovic feels he has unlocked a new lease of life working with Andy Murray as the Serbian credited his new coach for "bringing a fresh look" to his game.
The 24-time major winner formed an unlikely partnership with former rival Murray, appointing him as his coach in November for the 2025 season.
Djokovic will start his campaign at the Brisbane International on Tuesday against Rinky Hijikata without Murray, though the 37-year-old is already seeing the benefits of partnering with the Scot.
"He has a unique perspective on my game as one of the greatest rivals I've had. He knows the pros and cons of my game," Djokovic said of Murray.
"He played until recently on the tour, so he knows all the other best players currently in the world, the youngsters, and the weaknesses and strengths in their game. I look forward to it, I really do.
"I think he's bringing a fresh look to my game and I'll be able to benefit from that, no doubt, on the court. But also that champion mentality he has, I'm sure we'll match very well."
Djokovic and Murray, a three-time major champion, will unite at the Australian Open, which starts on January 12.
He will first aim for a 100th ATP singles title in Brisbane before searching for a record-extending 11th crown at the first grand-slam event of the year.
