'Que sera sera' – Postecoglou unsure on Spurs future despite Europa League triumph
Ange Postecoglou delivered Tottenham's first trophy in 17 years in the Europa League final, but is unsure if he will stay at the club.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou insisted he was unaware of any meetings regarding his future at the club following Wednesday's Europa League triumph.
Postecoglou led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years after beating Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao, with Brennan Johnson's 42nd-minute goal the difference.
Indeed, it was Spurs' third UEFA Cup / Europa League trophy, with only Sevilla (seven) winning more, providing a silver lining to what has been a disappointing campaign.
Postecoglou's team find themselves 17th in the Premier League ahead of their final game of the season this Sunday, where they welcome Brighton to north London.
Speculation surrounding the Australian's future at Spurs has been a topic of conversation for much of the season, though Postecoglou remained relaxed about potential discussions and wanted to enjoy their European conquest.
"No planned meetings. I haven't had any discussions," Postecoglou said. "No one has spoken to me about anything. Maybe they felt like they don't need to, or maybe they are waiting for this game.
"Look, what I do know is I'm going back to my hotel room, get my family and friends together, open up a nice bottle of scotch, have a couple of quiet ones.
"Then get ready for a massive parade on Friday, play Brighton on Sunday - really important last home game. I want to finish strong.
"And then on Monday I am going on holiday with my beautiful family because I deserve it. And que sera sera."
By winning on Wednesday, Spurs booked their place in next season's Champions League and secured a windfall estimated to be worth around £100million.
It also saw Postecoglou deliver on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season, something he mentioned earlier in the campaign.
Indeed, after Spurs' Europa League victory, Postecoglou has now won a trophy in his second full season with a club following past triumphs at Celtic, Yokohama F. Marinos, Australia and Brisbane Roar.
Postecoglou reiterated his desire to keep working with the group, with the Europa League final his 100th game in charge of Spurs across all competitions.
The 59-year-old has two years remaining on his current contract, but it remains to be seen whether he will be at the helm for the 2025-26 campaign.
"I'd be disappointed if I couldn't continue on this path. I understand why it would be difficult for a club like this to buy into one person's vision," Postecoglou said.
"Even when I signed, [chairman] Daniel [Levy] said 'we went after winners, it didn't work and now we've got Ange.' Mate, I'm a winner.
"I've been a serial winner my whole career. It's what I've done more than anything else. I know people talk about my football which I'm very proud of.
"I know people dismiss my achievements because they didn't happen this side of the world but they were all hard-earned."
