Juventus missed the chance to break into the Serie A top four after they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Roma on Sunday. 

It was the third consecutive stalemate between the two sides in the Italian top-flight, doing so for the first time since between December 1983 and March 1985. 

Juventus are now level on points with fourth-placed Bologna, who face Antonio Conte's Napoli on Monday. 

After a slow start to proceedings, Roma burst into life in the 25th minute when Bryan Cristante's goal-bound effort was brilliantly thwarted by Pierre Kalulu. 

At the other end, Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar produced a stunning fingertip save to deny Artem Dovbyk, tipping the Ukrainian's header on to the crossbar. 

Stephan El Shaarawy then struck the post, but Claudio Ranieri's team found themselves behind five minutes before half-time against the run of play. 

Kalulu's cross into the box was cleared only as far as Manuel Locatelli, who sent a first-time volley bouncing into the bottom-left corner. 

But Roma hauled themselves level four minutes after the restart. 

Evan Ndicka's header from a corner was saved by Michele Di Gregorio, but the ball fell kindly to substitute Eldor Shomurodov who finished from close range. 

Juventus had a chance to snatch all three points late on, but Weston McKennie's shot on target was blocked by Angelino, as the spoils were shared at the Stadio Olimpico.

Igor Tudor came into the contest looking to become the first manager since Ciro Ferrara in 2009 to win his first two games in charge of Juventus after taking over midway through the season, but he was unable to guide his side to victory. 

Juventus' result kept them fifth in the standings with 56 points after 31 games. In the three-points-per-win era (since 1994-95), only on three occasions have they had a lower tally at this stage of a season (48 points in 1998-99, 2009-10 and 2010-11). 

Roma, meanwhile, are now unbeaten in their last 15 games in Serie A (W11 D4) for the first time since the period between January and May 2016, when they managed 17 with Luciano Spalletti at the helm.
