Vardy: Leicester season a total embarrassment
Leicester City's relegation to the Championship was confirmed on Sunday, with captain Jamie Vardy apologising to supporters.
Jamie Vardy described Leicester City's 2024-25 Premier League season as a "total embarrassment" after their relegation to the Championship was confirmed on Sunday.
The Foxes were beaten 1-0 by league leaders Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, with Trent Alexander-Arnold's 76th-minute strike condemning them to the second tier.
Indeed, Leicester were relegated from the top-flight for the fifth time. Only Norwich City (six) and West Bromwich Albion (five) have suffered more in the competition's history.
It was also another frustrating match at home, with Ruud van Nistelrooy's team losing their ninth consecutive game at the King Power without finding the back of the net.
They became the first team in top-flight history to achieve the feat, while it was also the first game since February 2023 against Arsenal where they failed to have a shot on target.
Since Van Nistelrooy took over from Steve Cooper in November, he has managed just eight points from his 20 Premier League games in charge (W2 D2 L16).
Only Southampton (54) have conceded more goals than Leicester (50) since Van Nistelrooy was appointed, but the Foxes' problems had started long before that.
After 33 games of their Premier League season, Leicester have the lowest expected goals (xG) total in the division with 28.08, scoring just 27 times throughout the campaign.
Vardy, who is the Foxes' top scorer this term with seven, vented his frustrations at the campaign he has endured with Leicester in an impassioned social media post on Monday.
"At this point, I don't even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone," Vardy posted to X.
"There are no excuses. Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.
"Having been at this club for so long, we've experienced so many highs and successes - and this season has been nothing but miserable.
"And for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you're feeling it too.
"To the fans: I'm sorry. Sorry we haven't performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s**t show."
Leicester return to action against Wolves this weekend, with fixtures against Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Bournemouth to come.
